Considering polka dots have been around for years and a frequent print staple in many wardrobes I have a hard time calling it a trend. Although for the case of this particular post I will refer to it as such simply due to its rising popularity this season.
We have been seeing polka dots everywhere which is why one of my favorite ways to incorporate it into my wardrobe is not with simple accessories but instead another print. I love mixing prints and if you look through previous posts you will catch a little bit here and there but I have never given tips on the easiest ways to mix a print.
Pick One Piece
For this particular look I started with a polka skirt, a rising trend this season and one of my personal favorite ways to incorporate a print. At this point I had to choose whether or not to add another print within my top or jacket. I chose the route of a jacket as autumn is upon the horizon and I am looking for anyway to make my looks more autumnal.
Focus on A Color
One of the easiest ways to mix prints is by first choosing a color on your chosen piece to highlight. In this case I went with the blue polka dots on the skirt. It is honestly surprising how perfect other prints compliment polka dots making it the best introduction to mixing prints.
Try Options
Line up a few options and give them a try. One of the biggest reasons shopping in stores is better than online is due to the ability to find options and try them on making sure they not only fit but look good together. I was drawn to this bomber jacket because of the gorgeous dark floral (another autumn trend) and it just happened to be blue which matched the polka dot skirt perfectly.
Below I have shared a few different mixed prints looks that would be perfect for this autumn season incorporating some of this season’s favorites.
