“Explore the world with an open mind, a sturdy carry-on, & clothes that don’t wrinkle”

-Madeleine Albright

Preparing for travel sometimes comes with stress and is typically the least exciting part of the entire adventure.  Personally, I love packing but I do believe that is because I have mastered the art of preparation.  I will admit I start preparing for trips weeks or months in advance but in reality you only need a couple of days.  I have decided to share my tips and tricks to preparing my outfits for any upcoming travel.

Inspiration from Pinterest

The very first step in preparing for any trip is browsing Pinterest.  I love taking inspiration from styles I see on various Pinterest boards.  I rarely completely recreate a look but I do love finding similar pieces or styles and making it my own.

Weather

Always check the weather.  This can make a huge difference when packing, so I am always conscious of what the weather will be during the trip.  I use accuweather as I feel they have never let me down when it comes to accuracy.  They also show the extended weather for 90 days in advance which can really help.

List possible Styles

Weather is determined and Pinterest has been perused which means it is time to start brainstorming possible looks.  I usually write down ideas that I want to try out for the trip such as hair styles, specific pieces, or trends.  This helps give me a starting point but the finished product will come after shopping.

Browse Closet

As much as I would love to buy a complete new wardrobe for each trip, that is not possible.  Which means I typically browse through my closet to find any pieces that will work for the styles I was planning.  Most of the time this involves jeans, shoes, and basics.

Shop

If you were not already aware my first stop is always Elitaire.   Typically I will have great luck in here but if not I will usually take to places like Target, Aritzia, and Zara.

Try On

Once I have found all the pieces I feel I need for the entire trip I will start trying them on.  I always take pictures of the full outfit so that I can easily remember what I put together while I am on the trip.  This makes getting ready quick and easy.

Pack

I love packing.  It is probably one of the most satisfying things in the world to me.  Honestly it is because I feel so accomplished once I finish as I almost always pack in just a carry-on luggage.  Packing cubes have become the most important aspect of packing along with my Away luggage that seems to fit everything I need.

Finding a systems that works well and can not only cut packing time in half but also   make it enjoyable is something I can get behind.  So here is to 2019 and hoping all of your travels are fun…even the packing.
