“The first step to slow fashion is asking why before you buy”
As the fashion world is constantly changing I have made an effort over the past year and a half to invest in slow fashion. Purchasing pieces that will last me a lifetime rather than those that will barely make it a year.
There is so much to fast fashion that it would take me several blog posts to explain it all but a short definition would be: inexpensive clothing that moves relatively fast from runway to closet to waste. I will admit it is hard to avoid fast fashion completely but there are many ways to start adapting a slow fashion lifestyle instead.
One of the easiest ways to dip your feet into slow fashion is investing in wardrobe essentials instead of trendy cheap pieces that will not last more than a couple of washes. With that being said and Spring festivities filling up our social calendars it can never hurt to have a go-to dress for any occasion.
The midi dress is my personal go-to and falls into the wardrobe essential category for many reasons. When looking for dresses that can be worn for multiple occasions, one needs to ask what makes a specific item work for casual, semi-formal, or formal occasions.
I gravitate towards pieces that are neutral in color, appropriate in length, and perfect for multiple seasons. And while I would love to believe I think about these aspects before I purchase any new dresses, we all know I am far from perfect. But this is my step in the right direction to slow fashion.
