1 Resort Dress, 3 Ways [Expected, Unexpected, Winterized]

Whether you are immersed in the fashion world or not you may have noticed that many of the clothing arriving in your favorite stores is called “Resort”, not Spring, nor Winter, but Resort.  I have a love for all things resort, its light, airy, colorful, and new.  While I love resort as it reminds me that soon the cold days will become warm, and the sun will be a regular in life; it can be hard to make it work in your everyday life.

*But I am here to help*

Recently, Adelyn Rae dropped their new resort pieces and I am here to show you not only how I would traditionally wear this resort dress but also how I plan to make it work in the weather that is currently cold and dreary.

The Expected

With resort we tend to think  sunshine, summertime, and warm weather which brings me to how I chose to style this dress.  Think sandals.  One of my favorite ways to start adding warm weather pieces to my everyday style is the addition of a sandal…especially a leopard print.

The Unexpected

As I have mentioned, vacation is typically on the mind when resort is discussed but I actually love the idea of bringing resort wear to the office.  Add a blazer, a close toe shoe and you are ready to bring light to the office.  Also, I have a deep desire for mixing prints, so when you are feeling a little bland just mix prints (like these snake skin mules and this striped dress).

The Winterized

Now, the hard part.  Actually I personally find it extremely easy to winterize my favorite resort pieces.  Over the knee boots can be your best friend when it comes to warming up resort wear.  I have a whole blog post dedicated to over the knee boots (link here) so be sure to check that out.  But, layering will also help winterize a resort look, so add a coat or even a sweater over your dress and you have now successfully winterized resort wear.

However you choose to style your resort pieces, there is no denying we all love seeing the colorful and fun pieces hit our favorite stores.  I think of it as a little reminder that in no time we will be lounging by the pool and wishing it was fall.
